The Commitment: Oregon State lands Army All-American WR Jamire Calvin

MORE: SHOCKER! Calvin chooses Oregon State over Nebraska at Army Bowl | Recruits react to Jason Phillips and John Rushing hires

Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral wide receiver Jamire Calvin was high on Oregon State, but after his recruiter from the Beavers, Brent Brennan, left to take a head coaching job at San Jose State, Calvin did not place the Beavs in his top four schools list in early December.

The Beavs were an afterthought in his recruitment as nearly everyone thought he was going to Nebraska with Notre Dame being the runner up.

However, Calvin committed to the Oregon State Beavers during the Army All-American Bowl on National Television.

"First off, I just want to thank God for all of the opportunities and blessings. For the next four years, I'll be attending Oregon State University," Calvin announced.

Nebraska was the heavy favorite heading into the decision, but the chance to play with his closest friend was too good to pass up.

"Originally, I had my mind set on another school and then for the past few days - talking to everybody, talking to my dad, and talking to God - I had a heart change. To be able to play with my best friend Arex Flemings, it's just a blessing."

Oregon State jumped seven spots in the Rivals.com Team Rankings for the 2017 class after Calvin's commitment - from No. 42 to No. 35. They have 18 total commitments and six wide receivers commits, which is the number of wide receivers Gary Andersen wants in the class.

Calvin is the second highest rated commit of Oregon State's 2017 class behind fellow wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. Calvin sits at No. 187 overall in the nation and is the No. 31 wide receiver in the country.
