MORE - Recruit Reaction: Phillips and Rushing Hires | Update on OSU commit Justin Gardner
After former Beavers wide receivers coach Brent Brennan left Oregon State for San Jose State in early December, Rivals250 wide receiver Jamire Calvin from Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral did not include the Beavers in his top four.
"I won't be going [to OSU] anymore," Calvin told BeaversEdge.com after Brennan left. "He's been my recruiter. I had a relationship with him and he was my position coach and he just left."
Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Washington State made his final cut. Alabama was never a real threat. Calvin did officially visit Washington State, but the Cougars were never considered a serious option for Calvin
Notre Dame came on strong for Calvin, but as most everyone thought, including me, their push was too little too late as Calvin has been a long time Nebraska target that would choose the Huskers.
Calvin pledged on National TV at the Army All-American Bowl on Saturday that he'd be taking his talents to Corvallis to play for the Oregon State Beavers.
Arex Flemings probably has a huge smile on his face right now.
Flemings is long time, solid verbal commitment for Gary Andersen's 2017 recruiting class and is a very close friend and teammate of Calvin.
Calvin and Flemings wanted to play together at the same level, but after Brennan left and Calvin didn't include OSU in his top four, that seemed like an absolute long shot.
