Big news broke on Saturday that TCU running back Trevorris Johnson was taking his talents to Corvallis.
Johnson redshirted his freshman year at TCU back in 2013 and then played the next three seasons. He finished up his redshirt junior season last fall and is allowed to transfer to another school without sitting out a year as a gradute transfer.
The 5-foot-11, 226-pounder was TCU's fourth leading rusher in 2016 as he gained 225 yards on 41 carries and scored four touchdowns. His best career game came back in 2015 as Johnson ran for 91 yards on nine carries against Stephen F. Austin.
Billy Wessels of PurpleMenace.com, the TCU website on the Rivals.com network, spoke about Johnon's departure from TCU.
"He got his degree and would have been at best the fourth running back on the roster this season," he said. "TCU brought in a physical back, which was Johnson's role, in Sewo Olonilua and he's expected to be the 'thunder' to Darius Anderson's 'lightning' for this and the next three seasons."
Johnson gives Oregon State a needed third running back behind Ryan Nall and Artavis Pierce. Nall and Pierce are both big running backs, so Johnson will fit in well to fill the void left by Tim Cook.
"Johnson is a great kid and a powerful running back," Wessels said. "He just got into Gary Patterson's doghouse early for fumbles and had a hard time getting out. He's a tough guy to tackle, and I wish we could have seen TCU use him more in goal line packages in his tenure here."
Johnson visited Oregon State this weekend and confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
