The chatter surrounding the Oregon State quarterbacks is all about the three upperclassmen battling for the starting job in 2017.

But when they move on to the next endeavors after graduation, the Beavers will turn to their younger gunslingers.

Enter Aidan Willard.

The 2017 Oregon State signee is likely to redshirt his true freshman season. Once Marcus McMaryion and Jake Luton end their careers, Willard could take over the starting role as the Beavers quarterback as a redshirt sophomore in 2019. He'll have to do battle with Mason Moran, Conor Blount, and any other quarterbacks OSU brings in from now until then.

That's a look into the future, though. In the present, Willard is training this spring to prepare himself as best as he can for enrolling at OSU this summer.

Willard has been working out with quarterback guru Will Hewlett.

"We've just been working on different little fixes in my motion so when I get up there I'm as sharp as I can be," Willard said.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder didn't care about his star ranking as a recruit nor does he fret about what people are saying about him. His head is in the books - focusing on finishing out his final high school semester strong.

Willard has been keeping in touch with Oregon State quarterbacks coach Kevin McGiven about once a week ever since he signed his National Letter of Intent.

"We talk about Just about things that I've been up to and then about the [playbook details] he's been sending me," Willard noted.

A college playbook is much more complicated than a high school one, but Willard said everything so far has been basic, and he has grasped everything well.

"I'm very excited to get to Oregon State - can't come soon enough," Willard said.
