Hawaiian lineman open to all

As the off-season continues, Stanley Hasiak continues to see the number of scholarship offers mount up. The big 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle from Kapolei High School in Hawaii is enjoying all of the attention, but isn't ready to rule anyone out just yet. He's leaving the door open for all suitors - including Oregon State - while focusing on getting set for his senior year where he might just get a chance to play on the other side of the ball as well.

"I've just been lifting and getting ready for (next) season," Hasiak said. "We just had a spring game that went pretty good - I got good action on both sides of the ball. I'm just making sure that I stay in shape because as long as I stay in shape, I can do anything."

College coaches who have gotten a look at Hasiak have certainly been sold on his abilities and vast potential. His phone has pretty much been ringing off the hook and Hasiak has been soaking it all in.

"Right now, I'm just letting everything come in," Hasiak said. "When coaches call, I just talk to them and keep tabs with them. I've picked up offers from Washington, Oregon, Cal, UCLA, Arizona, Michigan State, UNLV, and SMU and Michigan says that they want to offer me. I'm keeping it open, just seeing what's out there."

Keeping it open for Hasiak includes those schools who have yet to offer - such as Oregon State, which has definitely made an impression on the young lineman. "I've been talking to Coach (Mike) Cavanaugh," Hasiak said. "He came down to see me (during the last evaluation period) and he's a cool guy. I like how he coaches - he's a hard-*ss when he coaches and I like that. Looking on the internet I was seeing what they have to offer, and they have a specialized course for sports medicine that I'm looking at. Coach Cav has been known to put out some good linemen, so that's a plus too."

It's a little too early for Hasiak to know if Corvallis might be a possible official visit destination in the months to come. But if Oregon State is able to secure a trip, Hasiak has certain qualities that he'll be looking for at the next level.

"You've got to be comfortable wherever you're at, and after the school I'm looking at the program," Hasiak said. "I was thinking about taking some visits (during the season) but after talking it over with my head coach, he is really depending on me this year and he needs me to be the leader. So I'll probably wait until after (the season) to take (my visits)."
