Franklin details Oregon State commitment

Oregon State landed their first basketball commitment of the 2019 class on Saturday as Villa Park (Calif.) guard Julien Franklin announced his commitment to the Beavers.

Franklin received an offer from OSU back in September of 2017 and took a visit to check out campus and meet with the coaching staff that same month.

"I think when I went up there for my unofficial in September is when I really decided that it was the right school for me," Franklin said.

Now that Franklin's decision to commit is public knowledge, a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders.

"It's been great. I can just focus on getting better now because I know where I'm going to go," said Franklin."There are no more distractions."

Franklin was in Corvallis over the weekend for his official visit. He made his final decision to verbally commit to OSU while at Wayne Tinkle's home.

"My official visit was short because I had a game Saturday," Franklin explained. "We landed on Friday morning and went to the hotel. We had food and went to coach Tinkle's house before the game. We talked and met his whole family. That's when I gave the verbal commitment."

Oregon State handily won the Civil War on Friday in front of a stellar crowd, and it was a highlight of Franklin's visit.

"It was crazy. It was an awesome atmosphere," he said. "I've never seen anything like it."

Franklin is committing to Oregon State as a shooting guard, but he brings versatility to the lineup.

"I play point for my high school. I can play multiple positions -- the 1, the 2, the 3, and I can even guard some 4's," he said. "Coach likes having many different lineups -- sometimes he'll go small, sometimes he'll go big. It's going to be good because I can guard 1-through-4."
