2016 Recap
Togiai had perhaps the most impressive start to the 2016 season of any Beaver. He and quarterback Darell Garretson had strong chemistry right away as Garretson targeted him early and often against the Minnesota Gophers. However, a knee injury on a kickoff return against Idaho State sidelined Togiai for the rest of the season. This was a big blow offensively for the Beavers as Kevin Mcgiven and Dave Baldwin called Togiai one of the best tight ends in the Pac-12. The Beavers then had to turn to a converted player in Ricky Ortiz and an unproven commodity in Tuli Wily-Matagi, and the Beavers struggled to get consistent production from the TE spot.
2017 Outlook
Togiai was granted a medical redshirt and is expected to do big things for OSU in 2017. He figures to be a focal point in the passing game, as he was the recipient of a lot of unique plays in the spring. The Beavers ran tight end screens with Togiai in addition to typical routes. Because of his combination of size and speed, he figures to be a key target for whoever plays QB for the Beavers in the fall. I look for him to be a big target in the zone and snag 6+ touchdowns this season.

Togiai is a very unique player, playing both football and a short stint playing basketball for the Beavers. His first season, he still had his basketball frame but still had a very successful freshman campaign. After suffering a knee injury in the 2016 season, it's going to be interesting to see how he recovers from the injury. That being said, I’m expecting him to lead all tight ends in conference in receptions and yards. A big year is needed by him in order for the offense to be successful with the pass game. He gives the offense more dynamics because now the Beavers can bring screens, pop passes and trick plays into the equation with Togiai back.
