2016 Recap
He started the last six games for the Beavers last season and went 2-4 as a starter. On the outside it may not seem very impressive, but he really grew as a quarterback in the wins against Arizona and Oregon to end the season. He had more passing touchdowns (5) than incompletions (3) in the win against Arizona and was extremely effective at running the zone-read against Oregon in a Civil War win for the Beavers.
2017 Outlook
McMaryion enters the 2017 season as one of the three quarterbacks vying for the starting job. McMaryion is just behind Jake Luton for the starting job, in my opinion. I’ve gone back and forth on who starts at QB for the Beavers in 2017. If McMaryion can make strides in the offseason, I think he will get a great opportunity to challenge Luton. Luton is still the favorite to win the job in my mind, but Luton wasn’t efficient enough to grab the reigns after spring ball, and I think that favors McMaryion. Time will tell whether he gets a chance to show what he can do in ‘17m but I think he will be one of the best backups in the Pac-12 if he doesn’t win the job.

A very promising QB for the Beavers, who is extremely efficient and brings some swag to the Oregon State offense. McMaryion has proven his case to be in the debate for the starting quarterback job. He has an excellent deep ball and got the Beavers passing attack rolling late in the 2016 season. His decision making is top notch as the Pac-12 ranked him in the top three for passing efficiency. He also brings the running option to the Beaver offense and has shown that if nothing is there through the air, he has no problem tucking it and running. If he is chosen to be the starter, I’m expecting him to pick up right where he left off, continue to pick apart defenses, and take control of the offense.
