The Oregon State coaching staff continues to search for talent across the country, and they've placed a premium on top recruits in Northern California.

Concord (Calif.) Clayton Valley Charter offensive tackle Brandon Mello is one of those prospects. The Beavers were the second school to offer Mello and the first Power Five school to offer.

"It was pretty awesome," Mello said about his offer from OSU. "Out of nowhere, I got a message from coach Baldwin over Twitter, and he said that I could add Oregon State to my offer list and to give him a call that night. It was pretty sweet."

Oregon State tight ends coach Dave Baldwin has been on fire recruiting the Bay Area, and he hopes that Mello is his next commitment.

"Yeah we've had a few text conversations about what's going on over there and how things are going for me," Mello said. "We've had a few phone calls.

"Oregon State is a great program in the Pac-12 and they're on the rise. I need to get out there. I definitely like Oregon State."

Mello plans on visiting UCLA and USC during his spring break. He hopes to get to the Pacific Northwest to visit schools like Oregon State and Washington as well.

Mello is rated as the No. 89 overall prospect in the state of California for the class of 2018 according to Rivals.com.
