Commitment: Beavs land first of 2017 Class

Oregon State coaches have been hitting the recruiting trail hard looking for athletes to round out the 2016 class due to sign in February. They aren't wasting time however going after their top prospects from the 2017 class as they landed their first commitment tonight.
Tucson (Arizona) Pima Community College defensive end Xavier Davis confirmed with BeaverBlitz.com that he did in fact commit to Oregon State. The 6-foot-6, 235 pound rush end has been receiving attention from Arizona, Washington and Colorado, but the chance to play at Oregon State was too much to pass up.

Davis graduated from Mesa (Arizona) Red Mountain this year and was forced to take the juco route to the next level. In nine games this fall, Davis has 27 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He will be joining current teammate Timmy Hernandez, who committed to Oregon State last week play football for Coach Andersen.
"Yeah, I'm originally from up there," he said. "I grew up in Beaverton and Tigard and I still have family up there."
He hasn't visited campus, but plans to in the 'very near future', quite possibly with Hernandez, who will be arriving in January 2016 for winter conditioning with the Beavers.
Defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake has been Davis' lead recruiter at Pima. While his arrival is a ways off, Davis feels strong in his commitment.
"I want to go back to Oregon," he said.
Stay tuned to BeaverBlitz.com for all of the latest from the recruiting trail.
