CORVALLIS – Former Texas District MVP running back Trevorris Johnson has signed a financial aid agreement to attend Oregon State University and will arrive on campus in June, head coach Gary Andersen announced Monday.
The 6’0 237-pound Johnson will graduate from TCU with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice this term and will be immediately eligible as a fifth-year graduate transfer for the 2017 season.
“I want to be a part of a special team that is on the rise to win championships,” Johnson said of his decision to enroll at OSU. “I’m a physical running back and the Oregon State offense fits my skillset. In addition, all the people I met at OSU were very welcoming and made me feel right at home.”
He arrives as OSU after a three-year letterman career at TCU, where he rushed for 789 yards and eight touchdowns in 36 games of action. He had a collegiate career-high 105 yards rushing in 2014 against Texas Tech. Johnson redshirted as a true freshman in 2013.
“We are very excited to have someone of Trevorris’ ability, character and focus join our program,” Andersen said. “He brings a level of maturity to our team on and off the field.”
Johnson attended Alief Taylor High School in his hometown of Houston, Texas where he earned District 18-5A Offensive Most Valuable Player honors as a senior. He tallied 2,115 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior and was rated the No. 7 running back in the state of Texas by Scout.com. He was recruited nationally by members of the “Power 5” conferences.
He intends to continue his education at OSU in criminal justice by pursuing a master’s degree in counseling.
“My goal is to create programs to help kids get off the streets and into atmospheres where they can be safe, successful and have mentors to have positive influences on their lives,” Johnson said of his educational goals.
Johnson bolsters a running back unit that set an OSU record last season with a 5.2 yards-per-carry average.
