Kentfield (Calif.) Marin Catholic quarterback Spencer Petras has had quite the wild past couple of weeks.

He's been breaking Jared Goff's old high school records at Marin Catholic left and right, leading his team to a deep playoff run, got bumped to four-star status on Wednesday, recruiting has picked up with schools trying to poach him from his Oregon State commitment, and he's had to deal with a head coaching change at OSU.

"It's pretty crazy, but I'm trying to focus on the important stuff and block everything else out," Petras said. "There's not a lot of time to waste when I get home. I get right to homework. I have to remember that I'm blessed to be in the situation I'm in. It truly is a blessing."

Petras committed to Oregon State several months ago and stuck with the the Beavers despite Gary Andersen leaving the program. Jonathan Smith was named the head coach on November 29, and one of his first calls was to Petras.

"I've met him before when he was at Washington, so it was kind of just saying what's up and congratulating him for getting the job," Petras said about his first conversation with Smith. "He talked about coming out for the home visit. It was a good conversation."
