Comment on Djibril's commitment here

Oregon State landed a commitment on Saturday as Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral outside linebacker Halid Djibril announced his intentions to play for the Beavers.

The versatile three-star recruit admits that he will still be open to other college coaches that want to speak with him.

"I'm still open to any school; I verbally committed," he said. "I committed because it really feels like the right choice for me.

"I like the environment there from what my teammates have been telling me. The coaches are cool; I love the coaches."

Djibril was offered by the Beavers last November and has kept in touch with the Beavers' staff since then. Also, Djibril is high school teammates with Oregon State 2017 signees Jeffrey Manning and Arex Flemings.

When OSU started recruiting Djibril, he was in touch with wide receivers coach Brent Brennan, but Brennan has since taken the head coaching job at San Jose State. Djibril is now being recruited mainly by cornerbacks coach Cory Hall.

Djibril talked to Hall when he committed.

"I talked to coach Hall, and he was very excited," Djibril said.

Djibril has yet to visit OSU, but his close friends, Flemings and Manning, have been there a few times and have told them all about Corvallis. Djibril hopes to visit sometime in the near future.

"I'm verbally committed. I love the coaches and everyone," he said.

At 6-foot-1, 181-pounds, Djibril is an intriguing prospect that is listed as an outside linebacker on his Rivals.com profile. Djibril was awarded the linebacker MVP at the Rivals Camp in Los Angeles in March.

"Although Djibril is rated as a linebacker, is being recruited as a linebacker and worked with the linebacker group all day long, it is somewhat of a stretch to call him a linebacker," Rivals.com analyst Josh Helmholdt said about Djibril at the Rivals camp. "At 6-foot-1 and just 181-pounds, Djibril looks more like a free safety than an outside linebacker. A camp setting, though, highlights his strengths, and he dominated everything from the cat-and-mouse drill to the one-on-one to take home position MVP honors."
