RELATED - The Commitment: Jamire Calvin
Just one day after the Beavers landed their sixth wide receiver commitment in the 2017 class, they picked up another wide receiver pledge.
Rocklin (Calif.) Sierra wide out Aaron Short was receiving interest from the Beavers for a long time, but he never had the offer from Oregon State.
That changed on Sunday, and he made his pledge.
"Basically, this whole time I knew that I'd be committing the moment they offered," Short said. "It was just a matter of time. They offered earlier today at like 12 or 1PM.
"Coach Baldwin gave me a call and told me that the offer was there. I talked to the new receivers coach [Jason Phillips] and told him that I'd be coming down there. Coach Andersen talked to me to make it official, and that's when I made it official with him."
Today marks a big moment for Short personally as he's reached the division one level. He started his career at San Mateo C.C. and moved over to Sierra C.C. for his sophomore season.
Short's junior and senior seasons will be played at OSU.
"I've been waiting for this since I graduated high school and into the JuCo level with me grey shirting and then having to switch colleges," Short explained. "There were low moments where I didn't think this was happen, but I trusted the process that God put me through. My excitement level is through the roof right now."
Short has not been able to visit Oregon State yet, but he's had plenty of contact with the Beavs' coaching staff and sees that OSU is on the rise.
"Even though they didn't have the best of records last year, there's a change in that program that coach Andersen brought along," he said. "They just need a few pieces, and I feel like I can contribute to what they're trying to do. Big things will be coming next season."
The OSU staff didn't talk to Short about the huge recruiting haul they're bringing in, but Short doesn't care about it.
"They didn't have to. I kept up with their recruiting and everything. It is [a lot], but I've been in positions where you have to fight for your spot. You have to earn the starting role," he said.
Short, who is visiting OSU for an official visit on January 13, will have three years to play two, meaning he will be a true junior next year.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder caught 18 passes for 257 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
