SWEEP! No. 1 Oregon State Baseball cruises past Stanford
Now it's just getting ridiculously fun for the Oregon State Beavers.
With their 7-0 win over No. 11 Stanford on Sunday, the Beavs have improved to 24-1 on the season, and have now swept back to back series against top 15 ranked opponents (Arizona and Stanford). This win is also their 19th straight victory in a row, which is a new school record.
Jake Thompson was lights out on Sunday as the shut down the Stanford bats - going seven innings and not allowing a single run. Adley Rutschman knocked out his first home run of the season on the way to the Beavs' big time win.
The Beavs won a close one on Friday night by beating Stanford 3-1, and on Saturday, the bats came out in full force as OSU cruised to a 15-7 win.
Sunday was domination from start to finish by the No. 1 team in the country, your Oregon State Beavers.
Next up for the Beavers is an in-state road battle with Portland on Tuesday. Then, Oregon State hosts Utah, who came into Sunday with a 11-13 record.

STANFORD, Calif. – The top-ranked Oregon State baseball team etched itself into the school’s record book on Sunday. And just 25 games into the 2017 season.
The Beavers swept No. 11 Stanford Sunday at Sunken Diamond, winning the finale, 7-0, and in the process, set a school record with the team’s 19th consecutive victory.
The Beavers surpassed their previous school record of 18 straight victories, set in both 1951 and 1962. Oregon State’s (24-1 overall, 9-0 Pac-12 Conference) current win streak started Feb. 25 with a 5-2 win over Nebraska in Surprise, Ariz. It has included 10 victories at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, seven on the road and two at neutral-site games.
The streak is the longest active in the nation, and one shy of tying Missouri’s season-long of 20. The Beavers are tied with Louisville and South Florida for the second longest.
Jake Thompson started and held Stanford to seven hits in seven scoreless innings. He struck out six and improved to 6-0 on the year, tying for the Pac-12 lead.
Adley Rutschman provided plenty of offense in Sunday’s win, hitting his first career home run in the seventh, a two-run blast that pushed OSU to a 6-0 lead. He had started the game’s scoring with a sacrifice fly in the third.
Steven Kwan added to a 1-0 OSU lead with an RBI single in the sixth, then watched as Cadyn Grenier drove home Michael Gretler in the seventh to make it 3-0. Gretler had tripled to center with one down in the inning.
Taylor drove in the second run of the seventh on a safety squeeze, enabling Grenier to come in from third.
Grenier, who tallied a team-high two hits, finished OSU’s scoring with a solo home run in the ninth.
Stanford dropped to 14-9 overall and 2-4 in Pac-12 play. Cardinal starter Chris Castellanos took the loss, dropping to 4-1 on the year.
Surpassing Arizona
The win pushed Oregon State to a 9-0 conference record, and the Beavers are the first team since the then-Pac-10 unified in 1999 to win their first nine league games. The previous best was Arizona, which opened league play in 2007 with an 8-0 record.
Five More To Go
Oregon State’s next record would be at 24 games for consecutive wins, which would surpass Arizona State’s conference record of 23 set in 1988. The NCAA record is 34 games, set by both Florida Atlantic in 1999 and Texas in 1977.
During The Streak
Oregon State has out-scored opponents 124-37. The Beavers have reached double-digit runs four times, and have held opponents to two runs or less 12 times. Six of the 19 wins have come against top-25 teams.
At Sunken
The Beavers’ win Sunday pushed Oregon State’s win streak to 13 games at Sunken Diamond, starting with a series finale victory in 2009. The Beavers are 18-3 at Sunken Diamond since 2005, and Sunday’s victory evened up the all-time series in California to 23 games apiece.
Versus Stanford
Oregon State’s win evened the all-time series between the teams at 44-44. OSU owns a 21-15 mark in Corvallis, the teams are tied at 23 at Stanford and the Cardinal have a 6-0 advantage in neutral-site matchups. Pat Casey, meanwhile, is 36-23 all-time against Stanford.
Thirteen Straight
Oregon State’s win pushed the team’s win streak to 13 games against conference foes dating back to 2016. OSU won the series finale at USC, followed by a sweep of UCLA to finish the 2016 regular season. That’s been followed by three consecutive sweeps over Arizona State, Arizona and Stanford in 2017.

Nick Madrigal singled to center to lead off the game, quickly pushing his season-long hit streak to 17 games.
