CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jacob Krieg, Elijah Hainline and Micah McDowell all homered and No. 6 Oregon State held off a late CSUN rally for a 9-7 win Sunday afternoon at Goss Staidum at Coleman Field.
With the win, the Beavers improved to 15-1 and have won 10 consecutive games after a four-game sweep of the Matadors.
Bridger Holmes came on with two on and one out in the ninth. CSUN took two hit by pitches by Holmes to score a run but the righty ended the game with a groundout to Travis Bazzana for his second save of the weekend.
Krieg hit a three-run home run in the first, then walked with the bases loaded in the fourth for his fourth RBI of the game.
Hainline, meanwhile, made it an 8-2 ballgame with a solo shot in the fifth inning, his second long ball of the season. McDowell hit his second of the season as well, hitting a solo shot in the eighth inning for an insurance run.
Bazzana, McDowell and Jabin Trosky all finished with two hits to lead the Beavers, who tallied nine in the win and 46 over the four-game series.
Eric Segura made his fourth start of the year for the Beavers, and worked five full innings. The righty struck out seven while allowing three hits and two runs with two walks issued. He improved to 3-0 on the year.
Segura’s counterpart, Diego Gutierrez, was charged with the loss to drop to 0-1. He allowed six hits and seven runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Next Game
Oregon State hits the road to open Pac-12 Conference play Friday night in Salt Lake City versus Utah. First pitch Friday is slated for 5 p.m. PT (6 p.m. in Utah). Catch the game live via the Beaver Sports Network and Varsity Network app for smartphones and tablets. There will not be a live stream for the opener, but Utah will provide one for games two and three.
Oregon State Notes
- Mason Guerra made his first start in left field, Gavin Turley his first in right field and Elijah Hainline his first at third base.
- Turley made the first out of the game on a diving catch of a line drive.
- CSUN recorded its first hit of the game off OSU starter Eric Segura with two down in the fourth inning.
- Micah McDowell extended his hit streak to 13 games with a single in the third.
- Travis Bazzana pushed his hit streak to four games with a single in the third as well.
- The win sent OSU to its 10th straight victory for the first time since 2021.
- The Beavers have now outscored opponents, 22-11, in the first inning this season.
