CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jacob Krieg hit his third home run of the season and Elijah Hainline went 3-for-4 as No. 6 Oregon State downed CSUN, 8-6, Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Oregon State held off a late Matador rally, with reliever Bridger Holmes entering the game with runners on first and second with no outs in the ninth. But the Beaver reliever needed just 11 pitches to strike out the side, retiring Kevin Fitzer, Nathan Barraza and Will Linberg for his first save of the season.
With the win, the Beavers improved to 13-1 for the first time since 2018. CSUN, meanwhile, dropped to 9-4.
The Matadors scored three in the first but the Beavers answered with a six-run frame, highlighted by Krieg’s third long ball of the season. His three-run blast put the Beavers up by two, and he scored when Travis Bazzana singled for the second time in the inning.
CSUN answered with three runs in the top half of the third, but OSU went ahead for good when Dallas Macias walked with the bases loaded. The Beavers put another run on the board in the fourth when Krieg doubled and then scored when Hainline found the gap in right center for two bases.
Hainline’s three hits led Oregon State’s 10-hit attack, while Krieg and Bazzana each had two.
Jaren Hunter started for the Beavers, but did not figure in the decision after allowing six hits and six runs in four innings of work. The win went to Ian Lawson, who held CSUN to just two hits and a walk in three scoreless innings. He improved to 2-0 on the year.
CSUN’s Kenji Pallares was charged with the loss, dropping to 0-1 on the year. He allowed six hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings.

- CSUN scored first for the second consecutive game. OSU’s opponents have scored first in eight of 14 games this season.
- The Beavers reached base twice on catcher’s interference in the first inning.
- Travis Bazzana singled twice in two at bats in the Beavers’ half of the first.
- Bazzana stole two bases, giving him 55 for his career. That surpassed Jeff Doyle, who had 54 from 1975-77, for third-most in a career at OSU. Bazzana now trails just Todd Thomas, who had 62 from 1980-83, and Jacoby Ellsbury, who swiped 60 from 2003-05.
- The Beavers have tallied at least three extra-base hits in 11 of their 14 games this season.
- Bazzana and Mason Guerra have reached base safely in all 14 games.
- Ian Lawson improved to 9-0 in his career at Oregon State.
- OSU’s bullpen has allowed just 16 hits and seven walks in 21 2/3 innings in the month of March.
- Overall, the bullpen has a 2.40 ERA in 63 2/3 innings this season, allowing 17 earned runs. The ‘pen has allowed 52 hits and 31 walks with 70 strikeouts.
