Oregon State announced in a statement on Sunday morning that quarterback Marcus McMaryion would be transferring from Oregon State.
McMaryion graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public health and has two years of eligibility. He can play this season as a graduate transfer.
“After much thought, consideration, and discussion with my family I would like to announce that I am transferring from Oregon State,” McMaryion said. "I want to thank the fans of Beaver Nation, the coaching and academic staff, and my teammates for a great three years.
"As I close this chapter of my life as a graduate, the next chapter awaits. It has been a privilege representing this program on and off the field. For my OSU brothers on the field, remain 11 strong and have a great season.”
McMaryion played admirable as the starting quarterback in the latter half of the season in 2016, but the Beavers brought in a junior college transfer in Jake Luton from Ventura C.C.
Luton, despite fighting an illness, was the first quarterback to take reps all throughout spring practices, and he was the No. 1 quarterback in the beginning of fall camp.
After just the sixth fall camp practice, head coach Gary Andersen named Luton the starting quarterback.
“Marcus has contributed much to our program on and off the field during his time here,” Andersen said. "We support him in his decision and wish him well as he continues his career on the field and in his studies."
Oregon State also has redshirt senior Darell Garretson, who started the 2016 season at QB for the Beavs, returning for the 2017 season. Conor Blount saw time behind center last season, and he is back as well.
Oregon State signed Aidan Willard in the class of 2017 and have a pair of commitments from 2018 signal callers in Jake Dukart and Spencer Petras.
