Looking Ahead at OSU: Running Backs

BeaversEdge.com continues the "Looking Ahead at OSU" series, and today, we put the spotlight on the running back position at Oregon State. What running backs are staying, who is leaving, and who is coming in?

Who Stays?

The returning group at running back might be the most talented position group on Oregon State's roster. Ryan Nall was banged up during his redshirt sophomore season, but he still gained 951 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 147 carries. Artavis Pierce had a great true freshman season when he filled in for Nall or gave him a breather. Pierce finished the 2016 season with 98 carries for 523 yards and four touchdowns.

Who will be below those two guys on the depth chart is the question mark. Former walk on Jaylynn Bailey will be a senior, and the Beavers have a few walk on running backs in Kieran Yancy, Hunter Mattson, and Marcus Greaves.

Who Goes?

Gone is Tim Cook, who was a junior college signee in the class of 2015. Cook didn't make much of an impact on the field during his time on the field, but he was a great leader for the younger players, and he had incredible work ethic.

Cook came into the season battling with Pierce for the backup running back spot, and after Pierce solidified himself in that role, Cook asked the OSU staff to play on special teams, which is a very admirable and unselfish thing to do.

Cook's biggest game as a Beaver came against their toughest opponent in 2016 - when he ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries against Washington.
