Oregon State and head coach Jonathan Smith stuck while the iron was hot, landing 2022 defensive back Carlos Mack just days after landing center Dylan Lopez.
"My commitment is 100%," Mack said. "I liked Oregon State even before I went on a visit, but the visit confirmed everything. The coaches, players, and culture are what led me to my decision."
Mack, who visited Corvallis this past weekend, chose OSU over the likes of Colorado State & Fresno State. He joins Jordan as the other defensive commitment in the class.
The 6-foot-1, 178-pounder is the sixth commitment in the Beavers' 2022 class, joining quarterback Travis Throckmorton, running back Damien Martinez, receiver Cole Prusia, linebacker Melvin Jordan, & Lopez.
"This '22 class is coming together great. There are so many uncovered gems because of COVID and I trust the coaches and their evaluations to make sure we bring in the right guys. I'll be the biggest recruiter for the Beavs..."
During his sophomore season in 2019-20, Mack recorded 85 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, and had one fumble recovery.
In Mack, the Beavers are getting a tough-minded competitor who sees the challenge in getting the program back to the postseason regularly.
"I definitely have a chip on my shoulder. I'm a blue-collar guy and Oregon State is a blue-collar team and I just want to learn from the older guys to push this thing over the top."
