Just before his final season, senior running back Jaylynn Bailey has decided to hang up the cleats. BeaversEdge.com has the details.

"I would like to thank coach Andersen, coach Lockette, and the rest of the Oregon State coaching staff," Bailey told BeaversEdge.com. "They believed in me, my hard work, and my talent. Being a part of the Andersen era was an honor. At this time, I will be medically retiring from football due to another knee injury.

"The timing of this injury as well as recovery made it impossible for me to be able to play another down as a Beaver. It's unfortunate that I will not be a part of this special team as they enter the season, but I wish nothing but the best for my teammates and the coaching staff. As always, go Beavs."

The local South Salem product started his college career after high school by signing with the Southern Oregon Raiders in 2013. He redshirted for the Raiders in 2013 and did not play for them before choosing to transfer to Oregon State prior to the 2014 season.

Bailey joined the OSU football squad in 2014, just prior to spring practices. He had to sit out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

In 2015, Bailey earned his first letter for the Beavers as he played in six games in Gary Andersen’s inaugural season. He recorded one tackle on special teams coverage and ran for 65 yards on six carries in the 2015 spring game.

Bailey was placed on scholarship at Oregon State following the Beavers' season opener against Minnesota last season.

2016 would end up being Bailey’s last season as a Beaver as he played in 11 of OSU’s 12 games, mostly on special teams and also emerged as a kick returner. He totaled two tackles on coverage teams and returned three kickoffs, including a long of 35 yards against Colorado.

In his career, he has accepted whatever role that the coaching staff placed upon him whether it was being a running back in spring practices, handling special teams duties, or returning kickoffs.

With Bailey’s retirement, the Beavers are still loaded at the running back position with Ryan Nall, Thomas Tyner, Artavis Pierce, Trevorris Johnson, Calvin Tyler, and BJ Baylor.
