3-Star Jacoby Hopkins intrigued by FAU, Louisville, Oregon State

HOUSTON, Tx. -- Three-star Heights wide receiver Jacoby Hopkins has started to gain a little bit of momentum in his recruitment this spring, headlined with two Power Five offers in Louisville and Oregon State.

He’s also added a few others, and his offer from Florida Atlantic may be an interesting option now that the Lane Kiffin era has begun in Boca Raton. Not lost on Hopkins is Kiffin’s pairing with offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, who directed Baylor’s potent offense last season.

“So far I’ve only dealt with Coach Briles, he’s who gave me the offer,” he said. “He had success at Baylor and he’s about to bring it to Florida Atlantic. And with the addition of Lane Kiffin, it’s going to be something special over there.”

Baylor’s early success last season had many fans keeping a close eye on the Bears. Even after things fell apart in the second half of the season, it was easy to see that Briles knew how to keep a star receiver featured in the game plan.

K.D. Cannon had an outstanding year,” he said. “To see that and Lane Kiffin’s success at Alabama, I expect them to pass the ball a lot also.”

Hopkins will have to weigh potential with more known commodities in his other more notable offers from the Beavers and Cardinals. It’s clear that he holds those two in high regard heading into his senior season.

IN HIS WORDS

On picking up his Louisville offer

“I was speechless,” he said. “I was somewhat caught up in it when they offered, I thought about (committing) but I just wanted to wait it out. I do want to commit somewhere before the season, though.”

On Oregon State

“It means a lot that they offered,” he said. “That’s the first school to believe in me. So I will always think about Oregon State. They’ll always be in my top-whatever.”

RIVALS REACTION

The loyalty to Oregon State seemed genuine and if those offers were to be the only ones from Power Five conferences, the Beavers could have the edge. Hopkins has an interest in making visits this summer, but no firm plans for where and when just yet. FAU did try to break into the Houston recruiting scene down the stretch this spring, it will be interesting to see if they can pick out a Texas recruit in Kiffin’s first year at the helm.
