Oregon State landed an instant impact transfer from Maryland in 5-foot-7 point guard Destiny Slocum on Monday evening.

That's the good news for the Beavers. The bad news is that she will not be available to replace Sydney Wiese for the 2017 season, per NCAA transfer rules.

The 2016 season was her freshman season at Maryland, and Slocum will redshirt this season. When she's available to play the 2018-19 season, she will be a redshirt sophomore.

Slocum returns to the west coast as she is from Meridian, Idaho. She averaged 11.5 points, shot 40% from the field, and was 37% from behind the arc her freshman season.

Slocum was named the WBCA National Freshman of the Year, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and the media, as well as to the All-Big Ten Second Team and the All-Big Ten Freshman Team, per Maryland's official bio for Slocum.

Her former Maryland coach describes her as "born to be a leader. She is genuinely concerned and connected to other people. She has endless energy and is always bouncing around with a smile. She sees the floor very well. I’ve coached some really good point guards and her leadership qualities are as good as any I’ve seen."

As a recruit in the class of 2016, ESPN ranked Slocum as a five-star prospect and the No. 7 overall recruit in her class. She was the Idaho player of the year in 2015 and 2016.

Below are more of Slocum's accolades:

All-Big Ten Second Team (2017)

All-Big Ten Freshman Team (2017)
