Villamin talks commitment

Oregon State looks to be on a recruiting roll in recent days, after sitting on just one commitment for what seemed like forever, the Beavers have quickly tripled that number. The most recent addition to the 2013 class came on Tuesday as Etiwanda (Calif.) Etiwanda wide receiver Jordan Villamin pulled the trigger and committed to Oregon State.

"It feels great to be committed to Oregon State," Villamin said. "I just called Coach Brennan and he was really excited."

The 6-foot-4, 195 pound receiver had just returned home from a tour of Northwest football programs, including a stop in Corvallis.

"It's really nice at Oregon State," Villamin said after his visit. "I really like the community, the scenery around the campus and the coaching staff."

"I met Brandin Cooks, Obum (Gwacham), and Markus (Wheaton) a little bit before he left," Villamin said. "I really met the entire offense and got to know them all a little bit. I actually was able to spend a whole day with Brandin and his roommate which was great because I really got to see the town."

The other big factor that hurried his decision along a bit was the commitment of Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) Los Osos receiver Victor Bolden who pledged to Oregon State on Friday.

"Yeah, Victor is a good friend of mine," Villamin laughed. "We've been friends since our freshman year and we know we can create a mismatch on the field. Linebackers can't cover him because he's too fast and defensive backs can't cover me because I'm too big. That will create some problems for the other team for sure."

Since Jordan and his Mom have already made an unofficial visit to Corvallis, he will wait until his official visit in the fall to return. In the mean time, he plans to help recruit more players to join him and Bolden at Oregon State.

"I'm going to be working on Justin Strong and Jermel Walker," he said. "I didn't know that Justin's brother played at Oregon State, so when I found out I was like 'they offered, you have to commit now!'"

Villamin said that his size and the fact that he has good hands are his biggest strengths on the football field. He also laughed and said, "I can run for a tall guy too."

He told BeaverBlitz.com that he still has a few classes to take during summer school and he needs to take the SAT, but said the he planned to work hard to get everything done.
