Top 5 Newcomers: Offense

Oregon State will kick off Fall Camp in a little over two weeks. Excitement and optimism are always at an all time high when Camp kicks off and several newcomers are even more excited to take the field and try to make an immediate impact. BeaverBlitz takes a look at five newcomers on offense to watch in August.

1. Darell Garretson, quarterback

We nearly left Garretson off this list of 'newcomers' since he has been with the program for a year now, redshirting after his transfer from Utah State. However, he is a newcomer to running the Oregon State offense and quite possibly the most important single piece of the offense heading into the season.

Garretson has shown leadership qualities, which is strongly needed at the position after the Beavers utilized three quarterbacks last season. His leadership and knowledge of Coach McGiven's offense will be big for the 2016 team.

2. Trevon Bradford, wide receiver

Local talent Trevon Bradford did a lot to raise eyebrows during the spring. The wide receiver graduated from Oregon City High School early in order to enroll at Oregon State in time for spring camp. That experience already has him on the two-deep at both punt and kick returns as well as #2 behind Victor Bolden at the "T" wide receiver spot. Pretty impressive for a true freshman who will see the field this fall.

3. Timmy Hernandez, wide receiver

Pima College transfer Timmy Hernandez is a newcomer of sorts. He actually was on campus to take part in spring camp and performed well enough to be sitting at the top of the depth chart in the slot.

Wide receiver is an extremely important position this season as teams look to load the box and make Ryan Nall run or Darell Garretson beat the opposition through the air.

4. Artavis Pierce, running back

The Auburndale, Florida native has been on campus for a month and sources already have told BeaverBlitz that he is one player to watch this fall. Great work ethic and a tough runner, Pierce may turn enough heads to make the travel squad as a true freshman.

The current depth chart lists Pierce as the #4 running back, which is expected of a newcomer, however after Ryan Nall and utility player Paul Lucas, the field is a bit unknown with JC transfers Tim Cook and Kyle White in the mix.

5. Mason Moran, quarterback

With the departure/move of two quarterbacks, The Beavers find themselves sitting at three scholarship quarterbacks, one of whom is newcomer Mason Moran. In a perfect world, ideally you'd like to see Moran spend a year redshirting, but life of quarterbacks in the PAC 12 may not allow the Beavers that luxury. If nothing else, Moran will be on the 'ready list' travelling with the squad and on the ready to take the field if needed. The good news: Moran graduated high school early and spent the entire spring camp session learning the Beaver system and adjusting to the speed of the game at this level. He will be one step ahead of the other newcomers in August.
