Thoughts on Oregon State's early signing period

The first ever early signing period arrived on Wednesday morning, and while it runs through Friday night, it's our belief that the Beavers are finished recruiting in the early signing period.

What were our thoughts from the day? Read below.

1. Smith got the job done

During Jonathan Smith's facebook live stream interview, he noted how he wasn't going to be handicapped by the early signing period as he had to focus also on hiring assistant coaches.

"We weren't going to allow an early signing day to dictate all of our decisions," Smith said. "We got core pieces of our staff around us, and then dived into recruiting.... I'd rather be late than wrong, in a lot things."

Recruiting was obviously still a very important matter that Smith had to tackle once he was named the Beavers' head coach a few weeks ago, and I thought he did a fine job with the class he held together in the early signing period.

Oregon State came into the day with 11 verbal commitments and walked away with all 11 signed. Smith had to juggle so many things in his first few weeks and handled his business on the recruiting front.
