Thompson picks up first offer

Talk to Tramaine Thompson and he'll be brutally honest - he has no idea how Oregon State found out about him. But the speedy 5-foot-8, 159-pound wide receiver from Jenks (Okla.) Jenks does indeed have a scholarship offer from the Beavers and he couldn't be happier. Thompson is stopping short of making a commitment as of now, but there's no question he wants to keep on learning more about the program and is looking forward to seeing the campus and Corvallis in person.
"I was trying to figure it out (how they found out about me)," Thompson said. "I had talked to (Jenks head coach) Coach (Allan) Trimble and he had told me that an Oregon State coach was down here and had watched me practice and that he liked it. (Trimble) said that the coach then came back and got some game film and stuff."

"I didn't think much of it, but then Coach Trimble called me and said that they were offering me," Thompson added. "I started jumping around and I was shocked. I was very, very happy."
Thompson's offer from Oregon State was his first and he's already making plans to get a look at the Beavers up close and personal.
"I've already talked to the coach and I'm going to try and make it up there later this summer after the coaches have their little time off," Thompson said. "Then I'd like to come up again in the fall for an official visit. My mom has been up there to Oregon before and she says that it's nice."
It's not often that a young man from the Sooner state knows much about the Beavers, but Thompson does.
"I've always kept up with them on the internet," Thompson said. "I like the offense that they have and they've got a great schedule - they don't play blow-off games but against great competition. They have a good program and they finished third in the Pac-10."
One thing that Thompson is looking for is a chance to contribute early and he sees that at Oregon State as well.
"I checked and they don't have a lot of depth at receiver either," Thompson said. "It all looks like a place that I could fit in."
Thompson, who's also getting recruited a little by Arkansas (where he hit a one-day camp at recently) and Tulsa, admits that if things check out on a visit, he could very well make an early commitment to Oregon State.
"I just have to get a good feel for the coaches and how everyone on the team gets along," Thompson said. "How I'd fit in with the atmosphere too."
This past season at Jenks, Thompson averaged 17 yards a catch, racking up 565 yards and seven touchdowns. As you might expect, he also excels on returns as well. This off-season he started making a name for himself at the Nike Camp held at Texas Christian University and now he holds a high-major offer.
"I feel like I'm a lot more skilled and better with my routes now," Thompson said. "My dad has me catching one hundred balls a day and that's helped me a lot."
