Speer Set to Visit Oregon State

When assessing the offensive line targets for Oregon State’s 2004 recruiting class, Adam Speer is near the top of the list. Rivals recently spoke with the stand out from West Hills, Cal. He is setting up visits with his favorite schools and has started by setting up a trip to Corvallis.

Speer has a solid top four of Oregon State, UCLA, USC, and Notre Dame. Boston College was another school that Adam was considering, but it appears they are no longer in the picture. He would like to take official visits to all four schools before making a decision.
Oregon State is the only school in Speer’s top four that has offered him a scholarship. Adam commented on the attention he is receiving from the Beavers at this time. “Coach Banker is recruiting me. Every time he calls each week we talk for about an hour. He was at my school last Friday. He came in and watched some film with me and then went to my game. I’ve talked to Coach Riley several times. He is a great guy and I’m very comfortable with him. The coaching staff is great.”
Chaminade High School stands at 6-3 with one regular season game remaining. They have qualified for the playoffs and Speer would like to wait until his senior season is complete before taking any trips. He has scheduled a visit for Oregon State on the weekend of January 9th. The visit will be the second trip Speer has made to see the Oregon State campus. He made an unofficial visit to Corvallis back in August.
When it comes to making his final decision, Speer has a list of three factors he will consider. Academics are at the top of that list. He will also use the visits to determine if he is comfortable at the school and find out how well he fits in with the players on the team. He will also look for the school that provides him with the best opportunity for early playing time. Speer also mentioned that he would like the opportunity to compete for a National Championship.
Adam made comments on each of his four favorites. Here is what he likes about each of the schools:
Oregon State: “Oregon State is a great program. I love the state of Oregon as a place to live and go to school. Coach Riley is a great coach. They have a pretty good business program. It is definitely a place I could see myself playing at next year.”
UCLA: “They have a great new coach, Coach Dorrell, and he has a great program. They are putting together a good recruiting class this year. They have one of the top economics programs in the nation. It’s all pretty attractive.”
USC: "They have one of the best football programs in the nation. Pete Carroll has done a wonderful job for them. The also have one of the top business programs in the country.”
Notre Dame: "The program is struggling right now and I know they could use some good offensive lineman. They have great tradition and great academics.”
