SoCal WR makes trip north

Blessed with all the intangibles, Kevin Chandler knew what he had to do this off-season to really catch the eyes of college recruiters - rev up his jets. The smart 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver from Mission Viejo, California, has worked hard this spring and summer doing just that, with the hopes that the improvement in speed will result in a number of scholarship offers that he can choose from.
"The off-season is going well," Chandler said. "Spring ball has been going on the past three weeks or so and we have one week left. I've been working with our linebackers coach who also does speed stuff two-to-three times a week and it's been going well."

Since concentrating on his speed, Chandler has been able to really shave off seconds from his forty time. He notes that his fastest time has been 4.5 flat and he now routinely puts up times 4.59 or better.
Chandler is hoping that his improved speed will lead to some offers on the recruiting trail, but he's got no complaints about the process so far.
"Recruiting has been going pretty well as well," Chandler said. "I've gotten calls from a few coaches and they've been wanting me to go to their camps and visit."
Chandler's summer schedule is packed with team-related events, but he got a chance to sneak away this past weekend for his first individual camp.
"The only one I've gone to so far is Oregon State and it was a good experience," Chandler said. "I got to visit with Coach (Mike) Riley and the coaching staff and I took a tour of the facilities. I did the one-day camp on Friday and it went well. I was a little off at first, but I kept it smooth after that."
Chandler discussed his impressions of campus and Corvallis. "I was impressed with the facilities and how the coaching staff is," Chandler said. "They said that they'll call me in the next week or so."
There's no offer on the table from OSU yet, but there's no question the Beavers made enough of an impression on Chandler to rank high on his list, which also includes Texas Tech, Washington State, San Diego State, Villanova, Stanford, Utah, Hawaii, Arizona, and Boise State.
Since he won't have much time to break away for campus visits during the summer, Chandler may wait before making any more decisions with his recruitment. In the meantime, he's staying open with all of his options.
"I'm looking for education first as I want to major in business and I want to go where there's a good business program," Chandler said. "Then, I'm looking at the location and then all the football stuff. I'm open to anywhere as my family is from the East Coast, so I'd be fine with going anywhere."
