During a radio interview with John Canzano of the Bald Faced Truth, Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith said that starting quarterback Tristan Gebbia will not play against Utah and perhaps, could be done for the season.

"He's not going to play this weekend," Smith said on the radio show. "It's just the risk-reward and we don't want to harm him long term. There's a possibility that he's done for the season, but I'm not quite ready to say that."

The 6-foot-2, 201-pound redshirt junior signal-caller was injured on Oregon State's penultimate play of its go-ahead scoring drive to clinch the game and backup quarterback Chance Nolan came into the contest to help seal the victory.

Per Smith, the decision to go with Nolan was after Gebbia traveled to Portland on Tuesday following practice to see a specialist. The final synopsis was that he wasn't going to play this weekend and that his long term health had to be the priority, which meant being shut down.

The Beavers will now turn to the 6-foot-3, 200-pound four-star recruit to lead their offense against one of the historically great defensive programs in the conference in Kyle Whittingham's Utah Utes.

"We feel really good about Chance and have felt really good about him the whole time. "We're giving him all the reps today, tomorrow, and Friday to give us the best chance to score some touchdowns. At this point, he gives us a better chance to win."
