Oregon State lands a big time safety commit in Charles Watson

The Beavers' coaching staff identified Charles Watson very early in the recruiting process, and they hosted him for a visit for the Boise State game, which was the first weekend OSU brought in 2017 recruits on official visits.

Watson was a Washington State pledge at the time, but he backed off of that commitment after his time in Corvallis.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder also took official visits to BYU, Hawaii, and San Diego State. After his time in Provo in November, the Cougars positioned themselves as the clear favorites to land his commitment.

However, the Oregon State staff, led by OLB/D-line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a, was relentless in their pursuit of Watson and eventually won him over.

"It was cool. That was my first D1 visit, so I got to see real division one guys and see what they looked like," Watson told Rivals.com earlier this week. "It was a nice place; I thought Corvallis was beautiful. It was cool seeing division one facilities and everything."

Watson plans on shutting his recruitment down now that he's committed. However, he does have one more official visit slot left. He was going to visit Vanderbilt, but he opted not to take that visit.
