Reichner explains Oregon State commitment

On Saturday, Oregon State landed a much needed commitment as junior college defensive tackle Jeromy Reichner pledged to sign with the Beavers on National Signing Day.

Reichner, who insists he is 100% solid with his Oregon State commitment, made his decision while in Corvallis for his official visit.

"My visit was great," he said. "I like the atmosphere of the campus and the players. The new coaching staff was great too. I just felt like there were a lot of genuine personalities."

The 6-foot-2, 289-pounder didn't need to return home to Philadelphia, Penn. to make a final decision on his next school. He knew after spending a day at OSU that he wanted to be a Beaver.

"That’s just when I knew I was ready to call Oregon State home," explained Reichner. "I made my decision after I spent enough time around the players and coaches.

"The first coach I told was coach [Jonathan] Smith. He seemed really excited but he wanted to make sure I understood what came with my decision. Everybody else just seemed happy, and my mom cried which made me cry, because she’s part of the reason I do what I do."

As a junior college prospect, Reichner is being brought in to play early, and with how thin OSU is on the defensive line, he certainly could see playing time as a redshirt junior this fall.

"Playing time is something that I have to earn, so I know there is a need at D-ine, but I still have to earn my keep," Reichner said. "I feel like Coach Legi is going to be a great coach but a better person."
