Oregon State landed a big time quarterback commitment three weeks ago as Kentfield (Calif.) Marin Catholic three-star passer Spencer Petras announced his pledge to the Beavers.
Petras visited Oregon State a couple of weeks before his commitment, and Petras returned to Corvallis this past weekend. He worked out for the OSU coaches during their prospect camp on Friday.
"I went up to get the chance to work with them. I was sick when coach McGiven came by my high school, so they never got to watch me," Petras said. "My dad had actually never been up to Corvallis, so I thought it was important for him to come up. It was a perfect weekend to get up there."
Petras got firsthand experience of what it will be like being coached by McGiven during the camp.
"I really loved it," said Petras. "Even if he was a guy who yells, I don't think he can at a camp. He seems like he really analyzed everything that I was doing and gave me concrete, constructive criticism. That's what I like. It's good to see a guy that's laid back, but he tells you what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong."
The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder and his father enjoyed spending time face-to-face with Gary Andersen.
