Poyer Semifinalist for Two Awards

Corvallis - Oregon State senior cornerback Jordan Poyer has been selected one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, highlighting the nation's top defensive back. He was also included Monday as one of 16 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, signifying the nation's top defensive player.
Poyer, a senior from Astoria, Ore., is second in the nation with five interceptions and was the Thorpe Award Player of the Week and the Walter Camp Co-Player of the Week after making three interceptions in the Beavers' victory over Washington State earlier this season. He also was selected a Mid-Season All-American by the Sporting News and prior to the season Mel Kiper Jr., of ESPN ranked him the nation's second-best senior cornerback.
The co-team captain has been an integral part of OSU's 6-1 start and a No. 11 national ranking in the Bowl Championship Series as the team heads into Saturday night's 7:30 game vs. the Arizona State Sun Devils at Reser Stadium.
