Finau spoke to BeaverBlitz.com's Adam Nicholson a few weeks ago about his connection with Oregon State.
"Oregon State is standing out right now because it is in the Pac-12 conference, it is a very good program in just about the best conference in the nation." Finau continued, "It's not just the football there though, you have a very good chance to get a good education too. Also, Coach Tuiaki and our family are very close with one another."
As Coach Tuiaki moved up in the coaching world, he kept his eyes on Kearns High School. In 2012, Tuiaki's first at Utah, he was able to secure a commitment from Sione's older brother, 2014 prospect and 3 star Amone Finau (who is currently serving on his LDS mission). It is this long-standing relationship between the Finau's and Coach Tuiaki that has Sione so interested in Oregon State.
"Coach Tuiaki has been extremely close to our family for a long time, and he has known about me for a long time," Sione said about his relationship with Coach Tuiaki. He continued, "This last week though, he came by my school and extended an offer for me to play football at OSU. I'm very grateful and blessed to receive the offer."
Although, Oregon State appears to be in a good spot in Finau's recruitment, it will be a while before any college program gets to see Finau in their school's colors. Like his older brother, Sione plans on heading out on his mission once he turns 18. Despite going on his mission, he still plans on signing with the program of his choosing in February.
