Katoa ready to be in Corvallis

He may have already signed his letter of intent to play for Oregon State, but Thor Katoa had yet to take his official visit to campus. That changed this past weekend, when the 6-foot-3, 250 pound athlete from St. George, Utah took in the Beavers spring game in Corvallis.
Originally Katoa signed with Utah in 2014 and took an LDS mission. He returned from his mission early and had to wait a full calendar year before being released from his agreement with Utah. Now he is more than ready to join his new teammates as a Beaver. As for where he lines up on the field, that is still up for discussion.

"We'll see when I get up there," Katoa said. "(I) may be playing stand-up defensive end/linebacker sort of like Nate Orchard. That's what I was discussing with Coach Andersen."

Since Katoa has never enrolled in college he enters Oregon State as a true freshman, even though he has spent the past several months working out. What did he like about his trip?
"It was a very cool town, a tight knit community and the coaching staff is going to turn the program into a very successful program for sure," he said. "All the boys on the team are really cool and we have tons of potential to compete in the PAC 12."
Katoa was hosted by defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo and confirmed that fellow 2015 signee Lopini Katoa is his first cousin. He plans to arrive in Corvallis in June.
"I'm really excited to get going with college ball," he said.
