Breaking the Drought

It's over.

The Oregon Ducks had won eight consecutive Civil War matchups with the Oregon State Beavers, but in Reser Stadium on November 26, 2016, the streak ended.

Oregon State used a gritty come-from-behind performance to defeat the Oregon, and in the rainy, windy conditions, the Beavers showed their toughness that Gary Andersen has brought to Oregon State.

Andersen's gameplan worked to perfection. He wanted to chew up the clock and keep Oregon off the field. The Beavers had the ball for 39:55 compared to Oregon's 20:55.

They were efficient on third down as OSU went 7-for-12 and racked up an 411 total yards. It was an amazing performance all-around by Oregon State.

Beavers Wanted it More

Oregon had all of the momentum to start the second half as they forced the Beavs to go three and out, and then scored on the next possession as Justin Herbert connected with Charles Nelson for 23 yards.

Oregon knocked through a 46 yard field goal to go up 24-14, and they had all of the momentum.

But the game saw a complete 180 shift. The Oregon State rushing attack that struggled earlier in the second half got going as Ryan Nall, Artavis Pierce, and Marcus McMaryion thrashed the Oregon defense for 206 second half rushing yards.

The defense stood up for some big stops. After the aforementioned field goal, the Ducks had very little success on their final three drives of the game. They had drives of just five and three plays and then turned the ball over on downs on their final possession.

Oregon State had more heart than Oregon and flat out wanted it more.

Ducks Get Hit by the Wrecking Nall

Ryan Nall's teammates on offense deserve some credit for blocking for him, but the Wrecking Nall does things that are beyond the playbook and are all on his own. Once he gets past the first level of the defense, he is so shifty and powerful. Without fail, Nall will take defenders with him to gain extra yards.

Nall's performance will go down in Civil War history. He carried the team on his back as he carried the rock 31 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns. Nall wore down the Oregon defense and had 61 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone.

Nall is a beast.

McMaryion Emerges with a Big Game on the Ground

The Beavs' starting quarterback threw the ball just three times for three yards in the second half. Oregon State didn't need to throw the football, so they didn't.

McMaryion carried the ball ten times for 81 yards, which was a season high in both categories. He played consistently throwing the ball as he finished 13-of-20 for 101-yards and a six yard touchdown pass to Ricky Ortiz.

McMaryion is not known for being a running quarterback by any stretch, but he looked very athletic and natural running the ball against the Ducks. Once again, he has proven that he will be in the mix next year to win the starting quarterback job.
