Dorsey star is a hit in Corvallis

A football camp is definitely beneficial for the school as it allows the coaching staff to get a good look at several possible recruiting targets. But for Vaness Harris, it was very beneficial for himself as well. The solid 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety prospect from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles came up to Corvallis this past weekend looking to make the most out of his time, and in all it was something he'll remember for a long time.
"It was a really good experience," Harris said. "I came up to learn new things and I really picked up some things. I picked up some good drills for footwork and I learned more about man coverage."

Harris noted that all the feedback he got from the OSU coaching staff was positive, and while they haven't offered him a scholarship the Beavers are definitely showing interest. The only other school Harris has talked to semi-seriously thus far is San Diego State, and of the two he's got a leader.
"Oregon State is the favorite right now," Harris said. "I really liked the area around there - Corvallis is a small town and I really like it away from the city. The weather there is pretty good too, very different from California. I'm keeping my options open going into my senior year, but I'm looking for good coaches that can teach me a lot of different things that I can use at game time."
Harris has remained relatively under the recruiting radar and that appears to be fine with him. He's spending the rest of this off-season at home, working out on his own both in the gym and in the classroom as well.
"I've been hitting the weights really hard and working on my conditioning, getting in shape and staying physically fit," Harris said. "I've also really been working on my footwork, my read and reaction, using all the drills I've been learning in camps. I'm also working on getting my grades through the Clearinghouse as well."
