The Beaver defense played a solid game, but it wasn't enough to help the team hold onto a victory against Texas. Linebacker Michael Doctor narrowly edged out fellow linebacker Feti Taumoepeau and cornerback Jordan Poyer for top honors in the Alamo Bowl.
Doctor's eleven tackles led the team and he assisted in a tackle for loss. He finishes the year as the team's leader in tackles as well. Taumoepeau's interception helped catapult him into second place in the points column, but it wasn't enough to edge Doctor. D.J. Alexander and Rueben Robinson each added four tackles to the effort as well.
The defensive line was led by Scott Crichton, who's blocked field goal was big in the first half. It was the team's only blocked kick of the season. Defensive tackles Andrew Seumalo and Castro Masaniai added eight tackles on the night and played a solid game although they were forced into more minutes by player suspensions and academic issues which left key reserves Rudolf Fifita and Mana Rosa home.
Jordan Poyer once again led the defensive backs with five tackles and a sack. Ryan Murphy and Anthony Watkins were also right behind Poyer in the stats category. Watkins also added a sack, while Murphy added five tackles. Tyrequek Zimmerman, Rashaad Reynolds, and Sean Martin added 13 tackles as well.
