Defensive Points + Giant Killer Award: UCLA

The Beaver defense once again halted a Heisman campaign for one of the top running backs in the nation as they held Jonathan Franklin to 45 yards rushing on Saturday. Oregon State levied a bend but don't break mentality and was able to hold the then #2 ranked total offensive team to 444 total yards (they were averaging 622 yards per game coming into Saturday's contest).
Sophomore defensive end Scott Crichton ends up as this week's Giant Killer, helped by two sacks of UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley. While the stats don't reflect the numbers, it was a very good performance by the entire line, including back-ups Mana Rosa, Joe Lopez, and Rudolf Fifita who played a solid game alongside starters Dylan Wynn, Castro Masaniai, and Andrew Seumalo.

Junior linebacker Michael Doctor led the team in tackles and walked away with linebacker MVP honors this week. Feti Taumoepeau and D.J. Welch were once again right in the mix as well as the linebackers had a solid day overall.
For the second week in a row cornerback Rashaad Reynolds was the MVP of the secondary. His hit in the first quarter was huge, but the play of the entire secondary is helping to strengthen the run defense overall. Jordan Poyer also had a bodyslam tackle late in the game and Ryan Murphy, Tyrequek Zimmerman and Anthony Watkins were strong in pass coverage and run support as well.
