Cornerback / Wide Receiver
Birmingham HS, Van Nuys (CA)
Chad Green is one of the top cornerbacks on the West Coast. He made the trip from Van Nuys (CA) to Corvallis (OR) to catch the action between Oregon State and Fresno State. He updated Rivals on his recruitment and his trip.
Chad Green already has offers from half of the Pac-10.
Chad visited Oregon State this weekend and described his stay as a positive experience. “It’s definitely someplace I could see myself playing. I like what they were doing on offense and defense. I spoke to the coaches, but they aren’t recruiting me for a specific position right now”. The stadium was at capacity with orange clad fans who made a strong impression.
Chad is currently playing offense and defense for Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, (CA). He’s a wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball, and plays in the secondary on defense. Although he’s reputed to be a great defender, he explained that he has had a faster start on offense this year. His defense is coming along more slowly, but nobody is concerned. By mid-season he should be excelling at both positions.
“Right now I’m very comfortable running routes and getting in a position to catch the ball,” said Chad. He’s known as a player who can make the defenders miss and gain additional yards, and he worked hard this summer to get even better. Last season he caught 25 passes for over 500 yards and scored on 7 of those opportunities.
“I didn’t attend any formal camps this summer, but I worked out with a quarterback and defenders to make my timing and routes better.” His production on offense is reaping benefits.
At cornerback, Chad’s strengths include his break on the ball and his ability to contain big plays by the offense. He’s a great athlete with 10.7 speed in the 100m, and his acceleration is one of his most valuable assets. His 4.4 time in the forty is testimony to his closing speed. This defensive sentinel was able to use his mobility to collect 70 tackles, and he even returned a fumble to paydirt.
Chad Green is one of Southern California’s best all-around players.
Chad has no shortage of scholarship offers. Washington, Oregon State, California, LSU, Washington State, and Arizona have all made official offers for him to play football. However, he’s not in a hurry to make a decision and explained that he won’t begin comparing schools or picking favorites until he’s made his visits. Distance will not influence his decision, and his parents are supportive about whatever college he chooses.
He has received phone calls from head coaches across the Nation, including calls from the Beavers in September. He has also spoken to the receivers and secondary coaches when making Saturday trips to catch the games. Chad will have a difficult decision in February, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he waited until the final week before LOI Day.
For Chad, preparing for his games is almost as fun as the games themselves. He and his teammates get together and relax during the day listening to R&B music while conserving their energy. As game time approaches they like to throw together mixed CDs with a harder flavor. By the time they hit the field they are ready to play.
