Beavers land their Quarterback

Lake O'Lakes, Fla., quarterback James Pensyl visited Oregon State for the first time this week and he had committed to Oregon State by the end of the day on Thursday.

Pensyl made the trip to Corvallis with his father and they arrived in Oregon at 4:00 a.m. early on Wednesday morning.

Since that time they have come acquainted with the area, the school, the program and the coaching staff, and by Wednesday the 6-foot-7, 203-pound quarterback had seen and heard enough to be sufficiently convinced it was the right fit.

"I committed around 4:10 p.m.," Pensyl told BeaverBlitz.com. "Going in (to the trip) I thought there was a possibility I could commit but I really wanted to take everything out here in. I loved it."

On Pensyl's first day at Oregon State he got a tour of the school and the football facilities. He threw for the coaches and then met with each of them. He was able to see the weight room and everything at the disposal of the players, and Pensyl said that part of the trip was impressive.

Thursday he got an academic tour, looked at the school again, threw once more for the coaches and met with Riley at the end of the day. That's when Pensyl committed.

"There were a couple of things I really loved about Oregon State," he said. "The coaching staff is amazing and I loved the town. I love the atmosphere. The people out here are great. One thing I really like is coach Riley and how much he cares. A lot of coaches say their players will graduate from college but coach Riley showed me and my dad how it happens."

Pensyl said the offense is "absolutely" a good fit.

"It's a pro-style offense and they want a pro-style quarterback," he said.

The coaches gave Pensyl good feedback, saying they were impressed with what he was able to show them over those two days of throwing. They didn't specifically reference his unique height but did say they like tall, prototypically-built quarterbacks.
