6 OSU takes game 2 over 25 Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Andrew Moore scattered six hits and two runs over six innings and Dylan Davis drove in five runs to send the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 10-4 win over No. 25 Stanford Saturday at Sunken Diamond.

The win sent the Beavers to a series victory over the Cardinal and Oregon State will be going for a sweep in the series finale, which starts at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Beavers reached two milestones with Saturday's victory. First, Oregon State improved to 40-8 on the year, becoming the second team in school history to reach the 40-win plateau during the regular season. The 2005 club was the first, going 41-9.

Second, Oregon State improved to 19-4 in Pac-12 Conference play. The 2013 Beavers are now tied with the 2005 Beavers for the most victories in league play since the then-Pac-10 unified in 1999. The 1993 Beavers hold the single-season record with 20 wins in Pac-10 North play.

Moore picked up his 10th win of the season after throwing 95 pitches in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked two. His lone blemish came on a two-run home run by Stanford's (26-19, 11-12) Austin Wilson in the sixth.

That home run snapped a 23 inning scoreless streak for Moore, who has won his five games.

Davis pushed his RBI total to eight through the two games against Stanford after going 3-for-5 with five RBI Saturday. He doubled home two in the third, singled in a run in the sixth and finished his day with a two-run single in the eighth. He pushed his team-leading RBI total to 42 on the year.

Davis, Andy Peterson and Max Gordon all had three hits to pace the Beavers, who finished with sss as a team. Davis has five hits in the series while Peterson has six hits and two RBI - both of which came Saturday.

The Beavers opened the game's scoring for the second consecutive day and sent nine batters to the plate in a four-run third inning. Kavin Keyes scored the first run on a wild pitch, then watched as Davis drove in two on a double to left. The Beavers capped off the inning with a fourth-run scored on another wild pitch.

Oregon State tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Keyes doubled and scored when Tyler Smith reached on a throwing error. Smith then scored when Peterson singled to left off the first pitch he saw from Stanford reliever Dean McArdle.

OSU added to the lead with run-scoring singles by Peterson and Davis in the sixth off McArdle.

Oregon State drove Stanford starter John Hochstatter from the game in the third after the lefty worked just 2 2/3 innings. He accounted for two of the four runs in the third via wild pitches and exited the game with four hits and four runs allowed. He took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the year.

The win sent the Beavers to their fifth consecutive series victory at Sunken Diamond dating back to the 2005 season. Oregon State is 11-3 against the Cardinal in California during that stretch.
