Oregon State announced on October 9 that Gary Andersen was out as the Beavers' head coach, but don't expect OSU's next coach to be named anytime soon as the football season still as several weeks left.

1. West Coast (or even Beaver) ties
Don't get me wrong, Oregon State could go grab a coach from across the country, but getting a coach that is familiar with the west coast recruiting landscape would be helpful. Also, it's important to get a staff that has west coast ties and connections with high school coaches in key recruiting areas for Oregon State.
But hey, it might be good to get a fresh start in new areas in terms of recruiting. It will really depend on where the ties of the staff are located, but in my opinion, it's important that OSU gets someone that has strong ties in the west coast - preferably the PNW.
There are potential candidates out there with Beaver ties - most notably Jonathan Smith and Bronco Mendenhall - and I think that getting someone who is already very familiar with Oregon State should be valued as well.
