Spring Preview: Offensive Line
MORE: Spring Camp HQ
At one time depth on the offensive line was a major concern, however 2013 looks solid for the big fellas in the trenches. A very strong recruiting class in 2012 has helped not only immediately, but with depth as well. This year the offensive line could be a big strength for the Beavers.
RETURNING CONTRIBUTORS & KEY LOSSES
Only one starter graduates, right tackle Colin Kelly. True sophomore Gavin Andrews is penciled in at #1 on the depth chart heading into spring camp.
QUESTION HEADING INTO CAMP
The offensive line may have less question marks this spring than in years past. Obviously it will be critical for the Beavers to determine if Gavin Andrews is the right fit at right tackle and they will also be assessing the rest of the unit to determine who the best back-ups may be.
Coach Cavanaugh also likes the linemen to be versatile and be able to play multiple positions on the line. Josh Mitchell for example is already slotted on the depth chart at center and left guard. Expect to see several of the linemen move around this spring to find the best fit overall.
2013 signee Sean Harlow graduated early and will join the team this spring. Another new face is David Keller who transferred from Fresno State last fall and he did not take part in fall camp.
Really, the pressure isn't all that hot on any player heading into spring camp. Justin Addie and Roman Sapolu may feel some pressure as the young guys are right at their heels, but youth is on the line's side with some very talented players in the mix.
Garrett Weinreich will miss spring as he continues to rehab his knee after suffering a season ending injury during fall camp last August. He was on the track to play before the injury. Also limited this spring is Chase Eldredge who is also coming back from a knee injury.
