Beavers partner to Fill the Bowl
The Valero Alamo Bowl, in conjunction with Oregon State University, Texas Exes San Antonio Chapter and Valero, is helping the San Antonio Food Bank collect food this holiday season by offering a free ticket to the 20th Annual Valero Alamo Bowl.
Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted on Friday, December 28th in the parking lot of the San Antonio Food Bank located at 5200 W Old US Highway 90, San Antonio, TX 78227.
"We're calling it our 20-20-20 plan," said Derrick Fox, President/CEO of the Valero Alamo Bowl. "For every 20 items from the San Antonio Food Bank's Top 20 "most needed list" you donate this Friday, you will receive one game ticket to our 20th Annual game as supplies last courtesy of Oregon State and Valero."
"The Fill the Bowl food drive is giving us a tremendous boost in helping alleviate hunger in Southwest Texas this holiday season," said Eric Cooper, San Antonio Food Bank President and CEO. "Together with Oregon State, Texas, Valero and the Valero Alamo Bowl, we can elevate our efforts to feed people in need in our community - turning hungry holidays into happy holidays."
The most needed items on the Top 20 list include: peanut butter, jelly, cereal, tuna, beans, rice, mac and cheese, chili, canned stews, canned soups, pasta, pasta sauce, canned corn, canned green beans, canned fruit, granola bars, canned luncheon meats, shelf stable milk, full meals in a can/box and pop top food items.
Since every dollar donated to the Food Bank can be turned that into 7 meals or 10 pounds of food, each $40 contribution to the Food Bank on Friday will also receive a ticket as supplies last. There is a limit of four tickets per person.
The Valero Alamo Bowl will match all onsite cash donations up to $20,000.
"We're fortunate to have another capacity crowd for our 20th Annual Valero Alamo Bowl, but we know many go without food during the holidays in our community," said Fox. "Hopefully such a high demand ticket will prompt everyone to give generously and help us reach our goal of providing 400,000 pounds of food."
