Vaz named starter for the Alamo Bowl
Before practice, Cody Vaz got the word. After practice, everyone else did.
Vaz will be the starting quarterback for Oregon State when they take on Texas in the Alamo Bowl.
After a battle that lasted through the majority of the bowl practices, coach Mike Riley chose to go with Vaz against the Longhorns.
"It was obviously a tough decision, but I guess that's a good thing," Riley said.
As for Vaz, the decision was not one that he had any inkling of which way it was going to go. He got the word earlier in the day from offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf.
"I had no idea, really," Vaz said. "They just told me this morning before our team meeting."
Now it's onto San Antonio and the Alamo Bowl. Oregon State will start its normal game week preparation starting tomorrow and the newly anointed starter is pretty pumped up.
"I'm just really excited," said Vaz. "Really looking forward to the opportunity. It's a big time bowl for our team against a great opponent."
With the quarterback position now decided, the Beavers will leave for San Antonio on Sunday and will practice again on Monday morning at the University of the Incarnate Word.
