Tyler Lombardo could be CMU's power back

Teams looking for a multi-dimensional athlete need to look no further than Harrison Twp (MI) L`anse Creuse linebacker and running back Tyler Lombardo. Lombardo is a 6-foot-2 and 230 pound battering ram that ran for 926 yards and 13 touchdowns last year as a runner and tallied over 60 tackles, 6 sacks and an interception from his defensive linebacker position.

Lombardo currently holds a lone offer from Ohio, but is being shown serious interest from Central Michigan and Michigan State. Despite his lack of a CMU offer, the Chippewas still sit very well with him.

"Man, I love Central. Even before all this football stuff started happening, I always wanted to go there. I have a bunch of friends that go up there and I just love it".

Due to his football prowess and friendship connections, Lombardo has had a chance to visit CMU many times and has come away impressed every time.

"The facilities are very nice, I've been to other schools and they aren't as nice as CMU's. And I've seen the campus, it's beautiful, CMU just really stands out to me".

Central Michigan is recruiting him as a running back, possibly as the thunder to all the lightning CMU has recruited at the running back position the last few years.

"The coach's say they like how aggressive I am on the field and how much passion I show for the game" added Lombardo.

College coaches from across the Midwest had a chance to see Lombardo in person this summer as he kept a busy schedule on the camp circuit.

"Camps were great, I really learned a lot. I went to Bowling Green, Akron, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Ohio and Western Michigan, so I kept pretty busy" said Lombardo on his now completed summer camp circuit.

What he learned in camps this summer should bode well for Lombardo as he set some personal goals for his upcoming senior season.

"I want to be an all-state player and rush for 1000 yards. I'd also like to add a few receiving touchdowns, I didn't have any of those last year, so I'd like to get one," laughed Lombardo. "And I want to get a defensive touchdown".

With his senior season looming, Lombardo reports he does not have a timetable for when he wants to make a decision.

"No, not really," said Lombardo on whether or not he has a timetable set for a decision. "Ohio says they are going to call me when I need to make a decision, so I'm just basing it off that".

Lombardo is a name to keep an eye on as the Chippewas continue to fill their 2010 recruiting class. Lightning struck in the form of Malek Redd, Tim Phillips and Ronnie Kennedy in 2009, might 2010 hear some thunder in Tyler Lombardo?
