Hawks offer Illinois TE

Class of 2014 tight end Ian Bunting did not pick up a scholarship offer when he attended Iowa's junior day earlier this month. Instead, he received it nine days later as the Hawkeyes got in touch with the Illinois native on Tuesday to give him the news. The key for the Iowa coaching staff in evaluating the 6-foot-7, 215-pound Bunting was actually watching him on the basketball court it turns out.

"Coach Johnson asked me to call him today and once I called him he said they wanted to extend an offer," said Bunting. "Coach Ferentz was at my school last week and then stayed for basketball practice. Coach Johnson said he was really impressed and when he got back told the coaches this is a guy we've got to have on our team, so that's when they made their decision to offer."

Injuries slowed Bunting down his junior year, but he still managed 16 catches for 412 yards and four touchdowns in the first five games for Hinsdale Central.
