JP's Weekly Walk-Off: UCLA Bruins
The Beavers return to Pac-12 action hosting co-leader UCLA for a series that will go a long way toward determining if they can claw their way back into the race for the conference crown after dropping 6 of their last 8 in league play.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
- Friday: OSU 5 - Arkansas-PB 3 - The pitching was decent, but otherwise it was a generally lousy effort by the hosts, as the Beavs trailed 3-2 heading to the bottom of the 7th against a grossly over-matched opponent. OSU hitters managed just 5 hits, and defensively 2 errors lead to 3 unearned runs for the visitors; but the guests were even more generous with 12 BB, 3 errors, 2 HPB, and 2 WP to help the Beavers avoid what would have been a very embarrassing loss.
- Saturday: OSU 12 - Arkansas-PB 2 (7 innings/mercy rule) - Jace Fry needed just 64 pitches to go the distance in a mercy rule shortened affair as the Beavs took care of business in the fashion you would expect.
- Sunday: OSU 16 - Arkansas-PB 1 - Taylor Starr picked up the win in his second start of the year giving up just 2 hits and 1 run in 5 IP, and a quartet of relievers was flawless working an inning each to finish it out. Offensively, Michael Conforto, Dylan Davis, and Joey Matthews combined for 10 of 18 OSU hits on a day A-PB likely wished the mercy rule were also in use.
- Monday: OSU 5 - Portland 0 - Dan Child K'd 9 over 7.1 shutout IP to drop his ERA to 1.93 and Jake Rodriguez keyed the offense with a double, a home run, and 3 RBI as the Beavs wrapped up a stretch of 13 games in 16 days.
